Distinguish Project Management from General Management

Some scholars argue that there is no difference between project management and general management. They had propounded that the skills needed in the project manager and general manager are the same and that their roles overlap.   However, the author of this paper will distinguish project management from general management even though some feel that there is no difference between the two. DEFINITION OF TERMS The author is going to define the following terms:   project, project management and general management.   The project management institute has defined a project as “A temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or source” Meredik J. and Mantel S.J.Jr 2001;167 as a temporary group activity designed to produce a unique product, service or result.   The Wikipedia.org defines project management as the “discipline of planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling resources to achieve specific goals. A project is a temporary endeavor with a defined beginning and

Compare and Contrast Between Qualitative and Quantitative Design in Research.

It is not a lie that we look for information each and everyday.   In one way or the other we had assumed the role of a researcher conscious or unconscious.   In this paper, the author will compare and contrast between qualitative and quantitative designs in research. DEFINITION OF TERMS Before attempting answering the question, the author will attempt to answer the following terms:   research, qualitative and quantitative research.   Hughes C (2000; 3) defines research as ‘a systematic investigation to find answers to a problem’.   The Random Home Webster’s College Dictionary defines research as ‘diligent and systematic inquiry into a subject in order to discover or receive facts, theories etc.   The author defines research as the thing we do when we want to find something.   Turning to the term quantitative research method, Henninger (2009;1) defines quantitative designs as a research which ‘focuses on numbers or quantities’   Madrigral and McClain also says ‘quantitative stu

The Conservation Methods Applicable to Prolong the Life of Archival Material

Etiwel Mutero When records had deteriorated, it is necessary to have measures in plan to prevent further deterioration, through various conservation treatments that can be employed to retard or slow down the rate of deterioration. In this paper the author is going to discuss the conservation methods such as de-acidification, lamination, encapsulation, paper strengthening, mending and sealing which are applicable to prolong the usability of archival materials. Conservation according to Laura Millor and Cook (1999:34)  Is the intrusive protection of archival material, by the minimal physical and chemical treatments necessary to resist further deterioration, which will not adversely affect the integrity of the original. On the other hand archival materials are those records that are not necessarily current but records that are of enduring value selected for permanent storage in an archival institution or any other fitting place. The first c

The Search Strategy Process from the Time of the Presentation of a Query to the Time it is Answered

Etiwel Mutero The search strategy is one of the elements in the reference service of the library. The aims of the search strategy are to produce satisfactory, accurate and useful results. In this paper, the author is going to discuss the search strategy process from the time of the presentation of a query to the time that it is answered. The search strategy is the skill that helps the information seeker to get accurate and relevant information. The search strategy encompasses several steps and levels of work in information retrieved. Chowdlury (1999:) mentions that there are many issues that there are many issues that need to be considered while formulating them  as; the concepts or facts to be searched and their order, the terms that appropriately represent (s) the search concept, the feature(s) of the retrieval system concerned, and the measures to be taken in revising a search statement. The first step in the search strategy process i

The Importance of Undertaking a Conservation Assessment Before Introducing a Reprography Programme in an Organisation

Etiwel Mutero Reprography is essential to records management as far as preservation of information is concerned. in this paper, the author is going to critically analyse the reasons why it is important to undertake a conservation assessment before introducing a reprography programme in an organisation. Reprography means, simply to reproduce so as to preserve the original storage media, be it a paper, electronic or microform based storage media. Methods of production or reprography includes, microfilming, photocopying, photographic reproduction and digitisation. A conservation assessment evaluates the physical state and security of all the holdings in the institution and also staff to determine the best course of action. The results of the assessment must be considered carefully and structured into a project plan. The conservation assessment s..ll to analyse general and specific collection, care needs are determined priorities established a
